Don't Let Bad Credit Stop You From Finding Apartments For Rent

Need an apartment, but have bad credit? Have you applied for apartments before and been turned down because your credit was too bad? Well, don't despair! Here are some tips to help you get that perfect apartment -- even though you have bad credit.

One suggestion is simply to be honest up front with your prospective landlord. By mentioning your credit problems but explaining that you're working on them, you can gauge how important good credit is to your potential landlord. Many landlords will overlook bad credit if they feel the person is an honest, hardworking individual who is working on improving their finances. After all, everyone needs a home, bad credit or not!

Another option is to offer to put up a little extra security. Offer to pay additional deposits, or perhaps two months rent up front. This gives landlords extra confidence in your ability to pay and safeguards them against loss in case you split without paying your rent.

There are many resources available to help you improve your credit so you can get the apartment of your dreams. Check your local Yellow Pages for listings for credit repair companies, and you're sure to find quite a few. These companies can sit down with you devise a plan where you can repay all your debts with one convenient monthly payment, and stop creditors from bothering you. A landlord may respect the fact that you're making every effort to repair your credit.

You might want to check with your local Social Services office as they may be able to refer you to apartments available for people with bad credit. Another option would be to work with a realtor. The realtor can speak to potential landlords on your behalf and give you a better chance than you would have on your own.

While bad credit can be seem crippling, but it shouldn't keep you from being able to rent an apartment -- especially if you're making every possible effort to fix things. Everyone needs a home, and you're no exception! By being honest with landlords you meet and showing them you are reliable and dependable, you have the best chance of obtaining the perfect apartment for you!
